چکیده مقاله:
Background: According to studies, despite the proven and effective role of mechanical ventilation on patients with respiratory failure, the positive effects of semi-upright position on oxygenation and ventilation of patients under mechanical ventilation and nurses’ training about them have been neglected. This study aimed to investigate the effect of outcome-based education of nurses on maintaining the semi-upright position in mechanically ventilated patients (MVPs). Methods: This study was an outcome-based research and designed with pretest/posttest. All nurses of intensive care unit of Firozgar Hospital participated in a 2-hour individual training course with the outcome-based approach on maintaining the semi-upright position in MPVs. The obtained data were collected by a checklist, including questions about demographics, knowledge, and performance. Assessment of the performance was performed via observation and completing checklist by the researcher. After collecting data, they were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS V.20. Results: The results showed that the mean(SD) score of nurse’s knowledge before and after training were 47.41(23.63) and 89.63(10.18), respectively and administering semi-upright position in MVPs in the posttest was significantly increased. Conclusion: The outcome-based education on maintaining the semi-upright position in MVPs has positive effects on knowledge and performance of nurses. We recommend use of this method in nurses’ curriculum.

Investigation of oxygenation in premature infants under mechanical ventilation in supine position compare to side lying
Abstract Introduction: Changing position is an important aspect within nursing care. Prone positioning amongst premature infants could improve their oxygenation compared to supine position. Side lying position leads to developed support between premature infants, however there is few studies about effects of this position on premature infants 'oxygenation. Objective: This study was conduc...
متن کاملUpright position mechanical ventilation: an alternative strategy for ALI/ARDS patients?
Use of body positioning to improve oxygenation in mechanically ventilated patients with acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been well documented. However, neither prone position ventilation nor side lying ventilation has been reported to improve the survival. Whether there is a body position superior to routine supine position or other positions as therape...

Introduction: Improving the respiratory function of patients for weaning mechanical ventilation is one of the caring challenges in intensive care settings. Acupressure maybe improves physiological criteria. Therefore, this study aimed to determine acupressure therapy on physiological criteria in female patients being weaned from mechanical ventilation. Methods: This randomized controlled trial ...

Background: The methods of baby's position are an important critical factor in ventilation and oxygenation of tissues. Although the prone position as one of the recommended position has beneficial effect on the development of premature infants, little research has been done. Methods: In a clinical trial among mechanically ventilated infants, hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care units (N...

Lung function of patients is one of the most important issues for anesthesiologists during the perioperative period. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of prone position on lung function of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation under total intravenous anesthesia. Sixty patients undergoing elective surgery were randomly divided into 2 groups: supine group (receiving operation in supin...
